Liverpool must NOT turn to Rafa Benitez or Kenny Dalglish as Roy Hodgson's replacement
It is indicative of Liverpool’s miserable predicament that many of their followers are looking backwards, rather than forwards, for a way out of the mess.
Stan Van Gundy Says Officials Are Unfairly Targeting Dwight Howard
The officials have singled out Howard, and they go out of their way to call technical fouls against him, according to Van Gundy.
Van Gundy was livid with the way Howard was treated by officials in Thursday night's 112-103 victory over the New York Knicks.
Howard leads the NBA in technical fouls, receiving his 12th of the season Thursday night, leaving him only four away from an automatic suspension.
"They (officials) are looking for him, no question. They make a call on him and they are looking for his reaction. Other guys get away with stuff. He's going to have to accept that, they are looking for him. Every one of them (officials),'' Van Gundy said. "For other guys, they look away. He's not going to be treated like everyone else in the league.''
Howard received the first technical of the game Thursday in the first quarter. Knicks center Amar'e Stoudemire received his in the second period. Stoudemire is second in the league with 10.

J.J. Redick Wants Spot in All-Star Weekend 3-Point Shootout
Filed under: Magic
ORLANDO -- J.J. Redick has used the last four seasons to prove he belongs in the NBA, improving in every phase of the game, going well beyond the reputation he earned at Duke as one of the finest long-range shooters in college basketball history. Now he wants to retrace his steps and remind everyone again just how good a shooter he is.
He wants a spot in the NBA's 3-Point Shootout at All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.
"Absolutely, I'd love to do it. I'd love to be in it. You know, I've never lost a 3-point competition,'' he told FanHouse Thursday after the Magic beat the New York Knicks. "So I think I'd do pretty well.''
Redick never has been part of the NBA competition, even though he left Duke as the NCAA record holder for most 3-point shots made (457) in a career.
Most of his time in the NBA has been spent improving his defense, his ball-handling and his ability to mesh as a role player on a team built around center Dwight Howard.
Redick is shooting 43 percent from 3-point range this season, just 18th in the NBA. Yet he has been considerably better in recent weeks. Since a slow start when he made just four of his first 28 3-point attempts, he has shot 54.2 percent (39 of 72) from long range in his last 17 games, rediscovering his stroke.
Boston's Paul Pierce won the 3-point Shootout last season, beating Chauncey Billups, Daequan Cook, Stephen Curry, Channing Frye and Danilo Gallinari.
Redick is averaging a career high 10.1 points and a career high 25 minutes per game. Even after the Magic restructured their roster by adding Jason Richardson, Gilbert Arenas and Hedo Turkoglu, Redick has remained solidly in coach Stan Van Gundy's playing rotation. He was the only Magic player to play all 12 minutes in the fourth quarter Thursday. He still doesn't start very often, but he has become a finisher.
"If they call me, I'd love to go. My understanding is they want to invite people who already are going to be there (at All-Star Weekend). And right now, I don't plan on going,'' he said. "But if they call, I'd go.''

Kevin Garnett Leaves Celtics Game With Right Leg Injury

Kevin Garnett left Wednesday night's game against the Detroit Pistons with a right leg injury. X-rays were taken on the Boston Celtics' star and were negative. The 15-year veteran will reportedly have an MRI in Boston on Thursday. In addition to the initial prognosis, boston.com reported that a teammate noted the injury was not "as serious as it appeared." The Celtics initially termed it a lower leg injury, and multiple reports indicate that it is believed to be a calf injury, not a knee injury.

Raymond Felton Playing Big, Loving Life With Knicks in NYC
Filed under: Bobcats, Knicks, Magic
ORLANDO -- Raymond Felton hasn't exactly embraced the big city lifestyle yet -- his favorite lunch stop is still the Waffle House -- but he has fallen in love with his New York Knicks. He may have grown up in the small town of Marion, S.C., played his college ball in Chapel Hill, N.C, then spent the first five years of his NBA career in small-market Charlotte, but there is no going back now.
After two months on the job, Felton is ready to turn his two-year contract into 12.
"I think now, I've found my home. I've found it. I'd love to spend the rest of my career in New York,'' Felton told FanHouse Wednesday after a light workout. "When this contract ends, hopefully we'll work out another one.''
While all the attention and most of the accolades for the rise of the Knicks have fallen on center Amar'e Stoudemire, it is the other free agent addition -- the mostly overlooked one -- who has been almost as key and a much bigger surprise.
Coming to New York to play for Coach Mike D'Antoni has transformed Felton from an average-at-best point guard into one of the best in the league, a potential All-Star and a leader on one of the league's most pleasant surprises.

Streaking Heat Hold Off Knicks
The Miami Heat hosted the New York Knicks on Tuesday night, about two weeks after their first matchup at Madison Square Garden and, although the end result was the same, the game was much more competitive this time around. Dwyane Wade exploded for 40 points (the most for a Heat player so far this season) and LeBron James just missed out on another triple-double against the Knicks as both he and Bosh chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds. Amar'e Stoudemire led his team with 30 points and seven rebounds in a losing effort.
"We came out to start the game with incredible energy and focus to really set the tone for the game," said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra afterward. "Offensively, they forced us into a game that was a little more stagnant. That's what they do: a lot of switches, a lot of unconventional things defensively. But we got enough plays on both ends down the stretch to pull it out. It was a good win."

Andrew Bynum, Brimming With Potential, Slowly Works Into Shape
Filed under: Lakers
LOS ANGELES -- Other than with Shaquille O'Neal, Phil Jackson hasn't had greatness in the pivot during his coaching career. He did still win three titles with former star Bill Cartwright at center and three with never-was star Luc Longley manning the middle.
So Andrew Bynum could be regarded as the second-best center Jackson has coached ever. The only problem is the Lakers' coach can't get him on the floor much.
So pardon Jackson's frustration regarding Bynum, who has been slow to return to form this season while coming off yet another knee injury. Jackson knows what kind of potential he has in Bynum, who is just 23 but has shown some impressive flashes in his six-year career.
"Just reactions right now,'' Jackson said about Bynum still not being close to 100 percent after he has played in six games after missing the first 24 of the season due to a right knee surgery. "Conditioning is part of that. I think his reactive ability and just reacting to the ball and the game is still an issue.
"Andrew's heavy. He's a muscular kid, but I don't think he's overweight per se. But he could probably stand to lose 10 pounds and be lighter and have less of a load to carry.''
