Video: ESPN?s Michelle Beadle in Super Bowl Ads

I am making a man law! “Michelle Beadle Is Cool” I know she co-hosts Sports Nation with Cowherd, and Cowherd is supposed to be the interwebs least favorite fella. Jim O'Brien Fired by Pacers

Jim O'Brien has been fired by the Pacers.

Team president Larry Bird announced the firing Sunday, saying: "This isn't all on Jim. All of us share in the responsibility for where we're at and where we need to go."

Assistant coach Frank Vogel will take over the team on an interim basis.

O'Brien and the Pacers sport a 17-27 record, ranking 10th in the East. The team is also reeling of late, losing their past eight games.

The reported firing comes just one week after Bird told FanHouse's Chris Tomasson that O'Brien's job was safe for the remainder of the season. The Star

O'Brien was 121-169 in four seasons with the Pacers. Despite the poor output, the Pacers' best player in his coaching days was Danny Granger - an All-Star talent, but more help was clearly needed as players such Roy Hibbert and Darren Collison continue to struggle.

Vogel has been a scout for the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards, and also served as an assistant coach for O'Brien in Philadelphia and Boston.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Byron Scott Has Been Through Worse Than Cavs Losing Streak

ORLANDO, Fla. - This isn't the worst thing to happen to Cleveland Cavaliers coach Byron Scott. It's not even the worst basketball thing.

Not even close.

Scott may have won three NBA championships as a player and reached the NBA Finals twice as a head coach, but he is no stranger to tough basketball times.

Scott and his Cavs lost their 20th consecutive game Sunday night, 103-87, to the Magic, leaving them just three away from the NBA record for consecutive losses - set by a team on which Scott played a key role.

Scott may have found fame playing alongside Magic Johnson as part of the Showtime Los Angeles Lakers, but he also spent one miserable season with the first-year expansion Vancouver Grizzlies, which lost 23 consecutive games during the 1995-96 season.

St. John?s stuns No. 3 Duke 93-78

Teams that beat Duke have reason to celebrate. Teams that blow Duke out of the building should be able to party all night. So, how long will the St. John’s players be allowed to celebrate Sunday’s 93-78 victory over No. 3 Duke — a game that wasn’t as close as the final score indicated? “Coach Lav said we had two hours to celebrate and then we have to get ready for Rutgers,”…

Eddie House Makes Playing Time Count

Eddie House

The carousel of Miami Heat guards shuffling constantly in and out of lineup coupled with injuries the team has suffered recently has now brought Eddie House back to being a steady contributor to the team who originally drafted him back in 2000.

Though slowed by a right ankle sprain that limited his minutes against the New York Knicks on Thursday, House stepped up and provided a much-needed boost off the bench to continue building on his blossoming production as of late. Putting aside the Knicks game, he's averaged 13.3 points and scored in double figures in the Heat's last five games along with knocking down 14 3-pointers.

Relegated to spectator during the Heat's dominant stretch for the last month and a half, House chose to stay positive and be ready if coach Erik Spoelstra needed him.

"Of course it's tough when you're not playing," admitted House after helping the Heat to a much-needed win against the scrappy Detroit Pistons with 15 points. "But that's the thing about it, you sit there and look at it in a negative light then when your number gets called you'll probably have negative results."

Kevin Love Makes All-Star Bid With 'Numb#rs'

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves hope that the key to the Western Conference coaches' All-Star vote is through their noses.

Introducing "Numb#rs," the new fragrance by Kevin Love.

On the same day the NBA announced the starters for the All-Star game next month, the Wolves' public relations department unveiled its campaign to convince the coaches to vote their star into the game as a reserve.

A box was mailed to all Western Conference coaches that includes a bottle of "Numb#rs" cologne, a DVD with a 30-second commercial for the product that spoofs an ultra-serious fragrance ad, an advertisement that includes Love and a local model dressed to the nines and a list of his accomplishments on the back, and a bottle of face lotion just for good measure.

"It's all in good fun," Love said on Thursday after practice. "You never try to take yourself too seriously. If you can have fun with yourself it's a good part of your life."

Blazers Armon Johnson Assigned to D-League's Idaho Stampede

The Portland Trail Blazers have assigned rookie guard Armon Johnson to the NBA Development League's Idaho Stampede Friday, the team announced.

Johnson, a 6-foot-3 rookie point guard out of Nevada, has appeared in 28 games this season with the Trail Blazers and is averaging 3.1 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 8.1 minutes. Over his last seven appearances, he's scored just four points -- all of which came from a 2-for-7 shooting performance during a 95-77 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Dec. 28.

Though it's possible to make the case that this move should have been made as soon as he was replaced by Patty Mills as Portland's backup point guard, it seems as though Johnson didn't see the benefit in playing in the D-League.

"I think you learn just as much (not playing in the NBA compared with playing in the D-League) because, being the type of person I am, I like to pay attention to it, pay attention to the game any way I can -- how people walk, how people talk out there on the court, pregame rituals, little things," Johnson told the Reno Gazette-Journal earlier this week. "I feel (staying on the Blazers' bench) is really helping me. And I'm around my teammates."

Kevin Love is putting up staggering numbers for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Rebounds — 15.7 per game, nearly 2 1/2 better than the next closest NBA player. Tracy Morgan Brings TNT Pregame Show to Halt With 'Salute' to Sarah Palin

Filed under:

Someone said something shocking on a TNT NBA studio show Thursday night. No shock there, not with Charles Barkley as one of the analysts.

Except, the stunning statement didn't happen in a studio, but rather on the floor of Madison Square Garden. And it wasn't said by Barkley, but by comedian Tracy Morgan, who made the startling declaration that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was attractive.

Really, really attractive.

Here's the set-up: Barkley, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson were conducting business at MSG in advance of the Miami Heat-New York Knicks game, which TNT televised. The trio were discussing the pending NBA All-Star Game and Thursday's announcement of the Eastern and Western Conference starters, when Morgan, who stars in the NBC sitcom "30 Rock" happened by their makeshift set.

Barkley and Smith asked Morgan whom he thought merited inclusion on the All-Star roster. Then Morgan was asked to choose between Palin and Tina Fey, who created "30 Rock," and has impersonated Palin on "SNL."

That's when Morgan said that Palin, the former Republican vice presidential nominee was "good masturbation material." It may have marked one of the few times that the normally loquacious Barkley has ever been speechless.

TNT, however, recovered quickly, issuing a statement from spokesman Jeff Pomeroy that read: "It's unfortunate Mr. Morgan showed a lack of judgment on our air with his inappropriate comments."

Starry Night at MSG Fields Unlikely Hero

Filed under:

Landry Fields

NEW YORK -- For the past decade, Madison Square Garden and more specifically the NBA team that called it home -- the New York Knicks -- was the rotten core of Big Apple sports.

This season, things are different. Thanks to Amar'e Stoudemire, the Knicks' first All-Star starter since 1997, the apple is polished and shiny and red and juicy. On Thursday, everyone wanted to take a bite.

TNT, back for the first time at the Garden in five years, went all out. They brought "Inside the NBA" up from Atlanta and managed to sneak Marv Albert past the Dolans and into the building. They announced the All-Star starters and three of the five Eastern Conference starters happened to be in the building.

The glitterati such as "The Donald," "The King of All Media," Kanye West, Spike Lee, Woody Allen, Alicia Keys and Tracy Morgan and his very dirty mind more than likely would have shown up to see LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and the Heat even if the Knicks were playing willing patsies to marauding opponents as they had in the past.

The stars had come to see stars, and for a while, they got what they came for.

Durant scores career-high 47 in OT win

Minnesota Timberwolves ' Kevin Love hangs onto the rim after a dunk in the second half of an NBA basketball game against the Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011 in Minneapolis. The Thunder won 118-117 in overtime. Love led the Timberwolves with 31 points and 21 rebounds.

The Minnesota Timberwolves threw everything they had at Kevin Durant. They put hands in his face. They bodied him on the block. They knocked him down in the paint. It was almost enough. Almost. Durant had career highs of 47 points and 18 rebounds, and the Oklahoma City Thunder overcame a 31-point, 21-rebound night from Kevin Love to beat the Timberwolves, 118-117, in overtime on Wednesday night.

Source: Bulls to Assign James Johnson to D-League

James Johnson, selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 16th overall pick in last year's NBA Draft, is expected to be assigned to the NBA D-League's Iowa Energy on Thursday, according to a source close to the situation.

Johnson, a 6-foot-9 forward out of Wake Forest, has played in 12 games for the Bulls this season with his last being a Jan. 4 contest against the Toronto Raptors in which he played three minutes and recorded no statistics. In 71 career NBA regular season games -- including 11 starts -- Johnson's averaging 3.9 points and 2.0 rebounds in just over 11 minutes per game.

Johnson has been consistently rumored to be on the Bulls' trading block but has yet to produce enough as a pro to justify to another team that he's worth taking a chance on. Even at the Vegas Summer League, a setting in which a first-round pick should typically excel, Johnson averaged just 8.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 6.4 personal fouls in 28 minutes per game (players are allowed 10 fouls in the Summer League). Even worse, Johnson made less than 33 percent of his attempts from the field, most of which came in a game against the Sacramento Kings in which he made just two of his 14 shot attempts.

Will These Cavs Sink as Low as Old Cavs?

Filed under:

They were the Edsels of the NBA and the Keystone Kops on wood. But most of all, they were known as the Cadavers.

These Cadavers, though, finally might be buried.

Trouble is, it's the same team with the shovel.

The Cleveland Cavaliers hold the NBA record for consecutive losses at 24, having dropped their last 19 in 1981-82 and their first five in 1982-83. Now, the LeBron-less gang has lost 18 straight heading into Friday's home game against Denver.

One more loss and Cleveland will tie its single-season record of 19 defeats in a row. Five more and the Cavaliers will equal the NBA single-season mark of 23 consecutive losses set by Vancouver in 1995-96 and the Nuggets in 1997-98. And it's six more to tie and seven more to break the granddaddy of all futility streaks.

"I don't want anybody to go through that misery,'' said Geoff Huston, a guard on Cleveland's record-setting team. "I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.''
