Video: LeBron Was MUGGED on that Failed Game Winner, Heat vs Knicks 2-27

I know everyone hates LeBron, and I know everyone is excited about the Knicks having Stat and Melo, and I know everyone hate LeBron, but Melo made serious contact on LeBron’s shooting arm as he went up. The ball was blocked by Stat, but that was well after the Carmelo Anthony contact. Also judging by [...]

Hornets Enter Mix As One of Four Teams Being Considered by Waived Leon Powe

Leon PoweAdd New Orleans to the list of teams being considered by forward Leon Powe, if he clears waivers on Tuesday morning.

Powe's agent, Aaron Goodwin, confirmed in an interview with FanHouse on Sunday the Hornets have entered the mix to land Powe, waived Thursday by Cleveland. In addition to the Hornets, Goodwin said he's also had preliminary conversations with Boston, New York and Memphis, teams previously identified as candidates.

"New Orleans is a good young team that has a good chance to go to the playoffs,'' Goodwin said of why the Hornets appeal to Powe. "He would have a chance to play there.''

Goodwin said Powe doesn't have a leading candidate to possibly sign with although he said Boston does provide "familiarity.'' Powe played with the Celtics from 2006-09, his first three NBA seasons, including being on the title-winning 2008 outfit.

The 6-foot-8 Powe had played sparingly for the Cavaliers, averaging 5.0 points in 14 games before his request to be waived was granted.

New-Look Knicks Make Statement With Comeback Victory in Miami

MIAMI -- With the game on the line, LeBron James got past Carmelo Anthony.

Not Amar'e Stoudemire, however.

And just like that, the New York Knicks -- with defense, no less -- knocked off the Miami Heat.

Chauncey Billups made the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:01 left, Stoudemire blocked James' layup try with 7 seconds remaining to protect a one-point lead, and the Knicks finished with a 13-2 run to beat the Heat 91-86 on Sunday night.

"The bigger the game, the bigger the stage, the bigger they play," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said.

Anthony scored 29 points and Stoudemire added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Billups had 16 points for the Knicks, who rallied from a 15-point, first-half deficit and improved to 2-1 since the megatrade with Denver that dramatically changed their roster.

Wigan 0 Manchester United 4: So how DID Wayne Rooney get away with that?

Heat Outlast Wizards at Home as Dwyane Wade Puts Up 41 Points

Dwyane WadeMIAMI -- The Miami Heat got back to their winning ways after a tough loss to the Chicago Bulls the night before with a tougher than expected 121-113 victory over the Washington Wizards on Friday night. Competing on the second night of a back-to-back set, the Heat looked a bit sluggish in the opening quarter of the game as the Wizards looked nothing like a team who have only managed one road victory in 29 games. The surprisingly tough victory made it seven wins in a row at home and placed the Heat a half-game behind the Boston Celtics for the Eastern Conference lead.

Wade red hot from the field

Dwyane Wade got it going in the second quarter scoring 18 of his team's first 19 points with 9 straight baskets, enabling the Heat to score more than twice as many points as they did in the first quarter. Wade's 41 points came off a season high 18 field goals out of 27 attempts, though oddly enough he was wobbly from the free throw line going 3-for-9. In his finest moments, he was unstoppable as he attacked the basket while also effortlessly draining shots from all over the field including a pair of three-pointers.

"I hit some jump shots and that opened up my game," Wade explained. "I finally got it going and at the same time we needed to get back and get the lead so it was kind of one of those moments."

Wall impressive in his debut against the Heat

Even with Wade's offensive explosion, both teams played mostly even in the first half and deep into the third quarter as a result of Wizards guard Nick Young's 38 points along with prized rookie John Wall's 24 points and 12 assists. It was Wall's first game against the Heat due to injuries holding him back the first two games of the season series.

Pistons Play Only Six in Loss After Apparent Player Protest

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The 76ers finally got even.

Elton Brand had 20 points and 17 rebounds, and the hard-charging Philadelphia 76ers reached .500 for the first time this season in a 110-94 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night.

Led by a resurgent Brand, the Sixers have rebounded from a 3-13 start to get to 29-29. Coach Doug Collins had already in his first season led the Sixers to more wins than they had a year ago. The Sixers have won 12 of 16 and are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference -- with the sixth-place Knicks in sight.

"This is a great night for our team and our fans," Collins said.

It was a clunker of a day for the Pistons.

Detroit used six players in the latest embarrassment for the fallen franchise. Several Pistons skipped at least part of Friday's shootaround and sat out their third straight loss.

Tayshaun Prince, Tracy McGrady, Ben Wallace and Rodney Stuckey did not start. Coach John Kuester wasn't around for the finish -- he was ejected in the second quarter after he was whistled for two quick technical fouls arguing a non-call.

Tour Report: Kaymer makes fashion statement (PGATOUR.com)

MARANA, Ariz. — With Rickie Fowler and Ian Poulter making early exits, the normally understated Martin Kaymer ended up setting the fashion trend on Saturday as the 26-year-old wore a navy-and-white scarf around his neck that conjured up images of Arabian shieks. Several Pistons Miss Shootaround

Filed under:

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Several Detroit Pistons missed at least part of the team's shootaround before Friday night's game at Philadelphia, the latest incident on what has been a difficult season for the proud franchise.

Team spokesman Cletus Lewis said Richard Hamilton, Chris Wilcox, Rodney Stuckey and Austin Daye missed the bus, with Stuckey and Daye able to arrive late.

Tayshaun Prince, Tracy McGrady and Ben Wallace also missed the shootaround. Lewis said Prince had an upset stomach, McGrady had a headache and Wallace was tending to an unspecified family matter.

Detroit entered the night 21-38 and is almost certainly headed to its third straight losing season. There have been signs of disharmony almost from the beginning. Coach John Kuester benched Stuckey barely a week into the season, although that was only temporary.

Kuester then benched Hamilton on Jan. 12, and he didn't play again until a Feb. 5 game at Milwaukee. Hamilton has missed every game since then. The team has said Hamilton has a groin injury.

The team was unable to trade Hamilton before Thursday's deadline. He's guaranteed $20 million over the next two seasons.

Wallace missed eight games in January. He's battled ankle problems and also left the team to tend to a family matter.

Nearing Technical Foul Suspension, Dwight Howard Rallying Magic

ORLANDO -- Magic center Dwight Howard received his 15th technical foul of the season Friday night, leaving him one shy of an automatic suspension, a cloud that now will hang over the final 23 games of the regular season.

But he also will be scary at playoff time.

Howard leads the NBA in technical fouls -- and at least one one-game suspension looks inevitable -- but he also made it clear that the Magic could be a real wild-card team when the playoffs begin.

Despite the Magic's struggles with consistency all season, Howard's growing dominance and recent willingness to hold his teammates accountable, still makes them dangerous for any opponent -- even if no one thinks they are a serious contender anymore.

"We don't care what anything says or thinks about us,'' Howard said after another Herculean effort Friday. "We know we can beat any team in the league.''

The Magic throttled short-handed Oklahoma City, 111-88, again riding Howard, who had 40 points, 15 rebounds and six blocked shots, a trifecta that no one else in the NBA has matched since Shaquille O'Neal in 1999.

The Magic (37-22) are resting in the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference, having already beaten the Celtics, Heat, Lakers and Spurs, while losing to the Raptors, Pistons and Kings.

Rangers 3B Beltre to miss 10-14 days

New Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre will miss at least the first week of spring training games, and likely more after that, because of a bothersome right calf strain. The Rangers want to be cautious with their key offseason acquisition after an MRI showed an overstretching muscle but no tear.

Bulls Hang On to Cool Down Heat

CHICAGO -- Derrick Rose scored 26 points and Luol Deng added 20, including the tiebreaking 3-pointer, and the Chicago Bulls beat the Miami Heat 93-89 on Thursday night in a wild showdown between two of the Eastern Conference's top teams.

In a game that could have playoff seeding implications, the Bulls used a big third quarter to turn a nine-point halftime deficit into a 71-67 advantage, then watched a nine-point lead in the fourth evaporate into a four-point hole before pulling it out.

Deng's 3-pointer with 16 seconds left broke an 89-all tie and sent Chicago to its 16th win in 21 games.

Dwyane Wade scored 34 points and LeBron James (shown in dejected mood in above photo) added 29 for Miami, which got outrebounded 53-39 while losing for only the second time in 13 games. Both losses have come against teams also vying for the East's top seed -- Boston beat them on Feb. 13, and the Bulls now own the head-to-head tiebreaker.

The Bulls beat Miami by three at the United Center last month, and this one was every bit as dramatic.

Rose and Deng led the charge in the third with 12 and 10 points, respectively, as Chicago outscored Miami 27-14, and the Bulls continued to pour it on early in the fourth.

The crowd was really rocking when Ronnie Brewer nailed a jumper to make it 80-71 with 8:26 left, but the Heat weren't finished.

They answered by reeling off 13 straight points, with Mario Chalmers nailing a 3 and James hitting two free throws to put Miami ahead 84-80 with 4:52 remaining.

Nuggets Close to Extension on Karl, Want Nene, Smith Back

DENVER -- Carmelo Anthony might be gone, but Nuggets coach George Karl is on the verge of being locked up to a contract extension.

Nuggets president Josh Kroenke said after Thursday night's 89-75 win over Boston that negotiations are nearly complete on bringing back Karl for next season.

"We're pretty close on that,'' Kroenke said in an interview with FanHouse. "We've been doing that throughout the process and we just had to cut it off at times because we had to focus on Melo.''

The Nuggets started negotiations in December on bringing back Karl, who becomes a free agent after the season. There were some delays due to trade talk regarding Anthony, the star forward who was dealt Tuesday to New York.

"Hopefully, soon,'' Kroenke said about when a deal on Karl will be announced. "George is somebody we want to keep here and, obviously, you can see him (Thursday), he does a great job with what he has. We'll hopefully get something done. We want George here for a long time.''

Kroenke declined to speculate on the length of Karl's contract extension, but sources previously have said three is te expected number. FanHouse had reported last month that Karl would return to the Nuggets next season, with Anthony being traded not being a factor.

Anthony scores 27 in debut as Knicks win

Carmelo Anthony waves to the N.Y. crowd.

The crowd roared as soon as the words hit Madison Square Garden’s overhead video board. “I was born in Brooklyn, New York,” it read. And what a homecoming it was for Carmelo Anthony. Anthony was an immediate star on his first day as a Knick, and he capped off his big day by scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a 114-108 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.
