ChiSox, Thornton agree on 3 years, $15M

With job security out of the way, White Sox lefty Matt Thornton can now turn his attention to proving he should be Chicago’s closer. The All-Star reliever agreed to a $15 million, three-year contract Sunday that adds two years and $12 million to his previous deal. The 34-year-old Thornton went 5-4 with a 2.67 ERA and a career-high eight saves last season.

Quaker State sponsoring NASCAR race in Ky.

Quaker State has agreed to become the title sponsor of the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the Kentucky Speedway. The Quaker State 400 on July 9 will mark the first new track to join the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule since 2001. The Kentucky Speedway is undergoing an $82 million expansion, increasing seating capacity to 117,000 from 60,000.

Bulls bounce back with win in Orlando

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose hardly looked like an MVP candidate earlier this week in a humbling loss at Atlanta. He and his teammates took out some of their frustrations Friday night against Orlando. Rose scored 24 points and Luol Deng added 16 to help Chicago hang on for an 89-81 win over the Magic in a matchup of two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
