Carlos Beltran’s progress is being hindered by his knees again — this time it’s the left knee that will keep him off the field four or five days. Beltran has left knee tendinitis, a condition that has arisen because he’s been compensating for his right knee. He was limited to just 64 games last season after right knee surgery in January 2010.

Carpenter reports no pain after bullpen

St. Louis Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter says he didn’t feel any pain after his latest bullpen session. Carpenter threw on the side Tuesday. It was his second session since he left his spring debut because of a strained hamstring. Carpenter and the Cardinals say there’s still no final word on whether he’ll pitch Friday.
