If you don’t know me personally, you might not know that I’m a person who loves his draft. I am after all, a sports futurist. And that means that I’m want to consider the fates of guys that you never heard of or have forgotten about. Into this breach steps one Freddie Barnes.
While many people pay no mind to the East-West Shrine Game in terms of draft prospects, good receivers from non-BCS schools have made their mark in this game. Greg Jennings and Marques Colston are two names that come to mind. The super-productive Barnes looks like he just might join them.
Barnes went for a senior season of 155-1770-19, which as you probably figured, shattered the single season record for most catches in a season. And after an impressive performance in the stealthy awesome Humanitarian Bowl, he earned himself an invite to the East-West Shrine game. And he wowed every scout with his route-running and glue like hands. There really wasn’t much impressive quarterback play in the game outside of Jeff Skelton’s cannon arm on the East, and Barnes made more news with his game than his silver cleats.
Though those are fresh. Fresh to death!
Anyway, from his Alma Mater of Bowling Green University, please do enjoy, three minutes of Freddie Barnes.
A Day 2 steal? Indeed.
