DENVER -- The Denver Nuggets are considering disciplining guard J.R. Smith for his sulking behavior on the bench Saturday against New Orleans. A source said a suspension is an option."I don't think we're going to have anything in the next couple of hours,'' Nuggets coach George Karl said to the media at midday Sunday. "I'll get on the phone in the next couple of hours. We're just trying to find a way to make J.R. play better.''
Karl, who also learned Sunday the Nuggets will be without star forward Carmelo Anthony on Monday against Charlotte due to a sprained left ankle, called Smith's behavior on the bench Saturday "eclectic'' when he expressed dissatisfaction with playing a season-low 12 minutes in a 116-110 overtime win over the Hornets.
"You can all interpret his body language as much as I can interpret it,'' Karl said. "It's different.''
Smith shot 1-of-5 for three points against the Hornets. He's been in a serious shooting slump the past month.
