The NBA fined Phil Jackson $35,000 on Monday, after the Lakers coach publicly criticized officials following his team's blowout loss to the Spurs on Sunday.Jackson's comments regarding the officiating almost seemed to be more aimed at one of his own players (Ron Artest), but nevertheless, the league felt the need to drop the hammer, perhaps getting a head start on trying to control these types of comments once the playoffs get going less than two weeks from now.
"Tonight they wouldn't let Ron play the way he played prior to [the technical foul call]," Jackson said Sunday. "[Ginobili] could hook Ron; [Artest] didn't get what was going on and ended up getting too many fouls on him."
Nothing too serious there, but perhaps the following comment, about the referees turning against the Lakers, is what caused the league to take pause.
