BOSTON -- The whys and how comes now take a backseat to the what: For the second year in a row, the Cleveland Cavaliers won more than 60 games, LeBron James won the MVP, and the team sent its fans home too soon and too disappointed.
The time might come soon enough when James leaves Cleveland crushed. He is fully expected to become a free agent when he opts out of the final year of his contract. Where he plays next season, nobody knows -- not even James.
"I love the city of Cleveland, of course," James said after he and the Cavs were sent home with a 94-85 loss to the Boston Celtics in Game 6. "The city, the fans. It was a disappointing season to say the least, but at the same time we had a great time together. We'll see what happens."
Hard for a Cavs fan to find a single word of comfort there about James staying and playing for his hometown team. Nor did he offer many others as he discussed his future. As he's done all along, James continued to leave folks guessing about his upcoming free agency.
"First of all I want to win," he said "That's my only thing, my only concern right now. It's all about winning for me. I think the Cavs (are) committed to doing that, but at the same time I've given myself options to this point."
