No one wearing a straight face can tell you the first-round series between the Hawks and Bucks has been pretty. It hasn't been ugly like Charlotte-Atlanta was ugly -- there's been a little scoring in this one, and overflowing drama. Nor has it been Boston-Miami ugly, given that the lower seed here is more than one walking masterpiece (that'd be Dwyane Wade) and a collection of refrigerator drawings (the rest of the Heat). It's been hot-cold ugly. Intermittent effort ugly. Mike Woodson's deliberate pace vs. Scott Skiles's deliberate physicality ugly. Mike Bibby-Kurt Thomas ugly.
But it has, nevertheless, resulted in the most beautiful proper noun in basketball: Game 7.
Atlanta hosts the upstart Bucks in a series decider at 1 PM Eastern Sunday on ABC. The winner will meet the Magic in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
The Hawks looked all but dead after losing the most recent battle at Philips Arena. The Game 5 defeat, on the heels of two straight Bucks wins in Milwaukee, put Atlanta in danger of elimination, shocking considering how thoroughly the Hawks won the first two games of the series and the absence of injured Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut.
