The tweet from teammate Terrence Williams said it all: "CDR got traded? What helllllll noooooo."Chris Douglas-Roberts has been many things to many people. The second-best player on a 2008 Memphis powerhouse that may have never existed. A sleeper who fell into the second round in 2008. A decent player who only got regular minutes on last season's lugubrious Nets. A guy who always spoke his mind on Twitter. And now, a Milwaukee Buck. Adrian Wojnarowski reports that CDR is headed to Milwaukee -- if not for a second-rounder this year, than for future considerations.
Even Williams would admit his friend is a better place now. This actually doesn't succeed in clearing out salary space so the Nets can sign more All-Stars this summer. Douglas-Roberts was due to make a measly $854,389, and it was on a team option. So this was all about just plain clearing out roster space, judging CDR an undesirable associated with the losing years, or some of each.
Then again, CDR has been the subject of trade rumors for months. He speaks his mind, basically just scores, and may or may not be a bad influence on the more talented Williams (who doesn't need much encouragement to speak his mind). Expect him to get a chance in Milwaukee, especially if John Salmons follows through on his plans to opt out. It was just time for both parties to move on.
Or, as Williams put it, "Goodluck bro an may god bless u with a healthy basketball life brutha man now just prove them wrong".
