Byron Scott played for the Lakers, won titles with the Lakers, grew up near the Lakers' arena. He understands the Lakers. He now is coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and as a television analyst he's seen LeBron James enough to know what kind of player he is.
What is the difference, Scott was asked at his first news conference as coach of the Cavs, between James and Lakers star Kobe Bryant?
"Five rings," he said.
Which would sum things up.
Bryant has won five championships -- one more than Shaquille O'Neal, as Bryant pointed out after the most recent -- and James is still looking for his first. The Cavs won more games than any other team in the NBA the past two seasons, but lost in the Eastern Conference finals to Orlando last season and in the East semifinals to Boston this season.
