Udonis Haslem has decided to re-sign with the Miami Heat, the team announced today. The rugged power forward was being pursued by several teams, and he indicated in an email to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that he turned down offers of the full mid-level exception from both the Dallas Mavericks and the Denver Nuggets. "I am excited to be back," Haslem said in a statement released by the team. "It's a great opportunity to win. Miami has always been my home, and I'm happy I can play here for years to come."
Exact terms of his new contract with the Heat are not yet known, but the Sun-Sentinel reports he accepted a four-year deal worth about a third of what he could have received by going elsewhere. Clearly, the allure of staying with the only NBA franchise he's ever played for -- and the chance to compete for multiple NBA championships with the star-studded core of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh -- was too much to resist.
