A few weeks ago, reigning WNBA Most Valuable Player Diana Taurasi raised the possibility that she would reduce her basketball schedule drastically - up to and including taking time off from the league.Taurasi may still take time off down the road, but her base of operation will remain with the defending champion Phoenix Mercury, as she signed a multi-year contract extension with the team Monday. Taurasi declined to talk about the contracts details, according to The Arizona Republic.
"It was never a question of whether I was going to stay in Phoenix or not," said Taurasi following practice Monday. "I've lasted pretty much this entire decade and I plan on being here a long time. That was no surprise to anyone in house."
Taurasi, the league's leading scorer this year (22.6 points per game) battled through injuries and hinted that she would at some point skip a WNBA season in a calendar that sees her play in Russia for a reported $500,000 during the winter and in the WNBA in the summer for around $100,000.
