The Suns have named Lance Blanks as their new general manager, ending what has been a turbulent summer in the team's front office. Phoenix's top two executives at the end of last season, Steve Kerr and David Griffin, both resigned just before the draft, and just as Amar'e Stoudemire had entered free agency. We saw how that turned out: without a steady hand to guide the Suns through these trying waters, Stoudemire was lost to the Knicks in free agency, and the team didn't really get enough in return to fill his All-Star shoes. While Phoenix ended up with some new pieces in Hakim Warrick, Josh Childress, and Hedo Turkoglu, the sum of those three don't figure to make up for what Stoudemire brought in terms of offensive production, rebounding, and overall synergy with the way Steve Nash and Alvin Gentry run things in Phoenix.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves. The future is now for Lance Blanks, even if it figures to be a little while before he makes any signature moves.
