DENVER -- Denver coach George Karl is excited to be back on the court. He'd be even more thrilled if his son could be part of it.After missing the final 1 ½ months of last season due to a form of throat cancer, Karl will start training camp Tuesday with the Nuggets. But not on hand will be son Coby Karl, a guard who signed last week with a Spanish team after being waived last month by Denver.
"I was very disappointed,'' George Karl said Monday about the Nuggets having let his son go rather than fully guarantee his contract for this season.
Coby Karl was signed by the Nuggets for the final week of the regular season last April, and finished the campaign with the team. With his father out battling cancer, part of the move was done to lift the spirits of the coach.
Coby Karl would have had his minimum contract of $854,389 guaranteed for 2010-11 had he remained on the Nuggets past Aug. 15. He was let go right at the deadline, and last week signed a one-year deal with CB Granada in Spain.
