The Portland Trail Blazers have traded Jerryd Bayless to the New Orleans Hornets for a 2011 first-round pick, according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein.Bayless was picked by Portland No. 11 overall in 2008. The Blazers, then led by Kevin Pritchard, actually traded up to get Bayless, who had been seen as a guard who could have landed anywhere from No. 4 to No. 12 in that odd draft. In the trade for Bayless, the Blazers sent Indiana backup point guard Jarrett Jack, Josh McRoberts and the No. 13 pick, which became Brandon Rush. The Blazers also got back Ike Diogu; neither McRoberts nor Diogu made an impact, essentially meaning the cost of moving up two spots for Bayless cost Portland Jack.
As a rookie, Bayless struggled to make an imprint. But last season, the guard became a rotation staple and even started 11 games. He averaged almost 18 minutes a game; strangely enough, the midseason trade of Steve Blake to the Clippers didn't open up more time for Bayless. The guard played slightly more minutes per game before the All-Star break than after.
