After directing the Washington Mystics to the two best regular seasons in the franchise's checkered history, general manager Angela Taylor will not return next season, continuing a series of curious offseason departures around the league. In a statement released Saturday on the team's website, Sheila C. Johnson, the Mystics' president and managing general partner, said, "Angela Taylor's contract has expired and we were not able to reach an agreement on a new deal to retain her as general manager of the Washington Mystics. We thank Angela for all of her hard work on behalf of the Mystics and wish her well in her future endeavors."
Taylor could not be reached for comment Saturday. However, on her Twitter page, Taylor wrote, "Thanks 2 Mystics fans, players & staff for two incredible years. I'm proud of what we were able 2 accomplish & wish u the best in the future."
She also wrote, "For the record, I've been vested in the W for 14 years. It's never been about the money. It's about respect & doing things the right way!"
