The Edmonton Oilers have waived defenseman Sheldon Souray and goalie Martin Gerber. If none of the other 29 teams put in a claim for either player by Friday at noon EDT, the Oilers can send the veterans to Oklahoma City of the AHL. They could also put them on re-entry waivers, where any team putting in a claim would only be responsible for half of the salary — with Edmonton paying the rest.
