ORLANDO -- Hedo Turkoglu once became the NBA's Most Improved Player with the Orlando Magic. He became one of the NBA's most overpaid when he left.
Rarely has a drop been so sudden and dramatic, accentuated Thursday night by his return to the scene of his finest days as an NBA player.
"I had some good years here,'' Turkoglu said after a disastrous shooting night with the Phoenix Suns. "But things change in this league. Things can change quickly.''
His Suns were smothered by the Magic, 105-89, trailing from start to finish, and he certainly contributed to the cause, missing all eight of his shots and committing three turnovers, looking as lost as he once looked at home in Orlando.
Turkoglu, the 6-foot-8 forward, was a key player in helping the Magic reach the NBA Finals in 2009, but he left as an unrestricted free agent when the Toronto Raptors offered a five-year, $52 million contract that was much more than the Magic were willing to pay.
