ORLANDO -- Gilbert Arenas can joke about his dreadful start with the Orlando Magic -- that's how happy he is to be here, how confident he remains -- but not for a minute does he think this slump will last for very long. The old Gilbert Arenas -- the self proclaimed Hibachi -- isn't too far away. He is sure that side of him will arrive with the moving van from Washington.
"I'm not playing too well yet, but I'm already `The Man,' at the grocery store over near the house. I'm like Dwight Howard over there,'' Arenas chuckled Tuesday night after struggling again uncharacteristically. "I'm like a superstar at the Publix (supermarket)."
Arenas, who arrived Saturday by trade as the centerpiece of a major Magic overhaul, has struggled in his first two games, making just 2-of-11 shots in a loss to Atlanta Monday, then hitting only 1-of-6 shots in Tuesday's loss to Dallas.
Arenas had two points, four assists and five personal fouls against Dallas, looking nothing like the player he once was, and still believes he will be again.
"I'm still trying to find out where to put my dominance,'' Arenas said in a serious tone. "My role will be to score, to make shots, to make plays. My shot has been fabulous in practice. I just haven't gotten it acclimated to the games yet.''
