"It was the most spectacular serendipity that happened in my life, without a doubt," Dolich, the current COO of the San Francisco 49ers, told FanHouse earlier this week.
What's strange about that is twofold: First, Dolich has had a lot of, well, serendipitous moments in a career that has included executive positions in all four major sports.
And second, the 1972-73 76ers -- with a mark of 9-73 -- own the worst record in NBA history.
Dolich, an ambitious young Sixers employee living in a friend's basement in South Jersey at the time, admitted that he was just happy to be working in pro sports and took the opportunity to do anything for the franchise.
"When I do speeches to kids looking to get into the business, I say, 'Seek out the chaos.'" Dolich said of the merits of an experience with a losing team. "If you are there when everyone's hair is on fire, and you say, 'This is great,' that's when you know the business is for you."
