You may remember a particularly laugh-worthy blow-out at Madison Square Garden a couple months ago -- the Mavericks visited New York and left only ash in their wake, beating the Knicks by 50. Fifty. The Bockers searched for their souls, found them in the mud (near their dignity), and rose again. ... OK, they didn't really "rise again." But they stopped losing by 50.
Fast forward to, well, now. The Mavericks are flying high, the Knicks still aren't, and a rematch is scheduled for Dallas. The Mavs, No. 2 in the West, come in having won 13 straight, just one victory away from tying the league's longest win streak of the season.
But the Knicks got the last laugh.
New York, 22-43 on the season, on schedule to be among the five worst teams in the NBA, took a 10-point lead into halftime, and then blew the Mavericks out of the building in the third quarter. The Knicks ended up winning by 36. Thirty-six. Revenge never tasted so Kafkaesque.
