According to a report by Ric Bucher on ESPN.com, it is only a matter of time before he and the Denver Nuggets part ways. The three-time All-Star small forward is the clear-cut prize in next summer's free-agent class and is currently mulling over a three-year, $65 million extension offered by the Nuggets.
Bucher quotes one league source as saying, "[Anthony's] going to make it real clear that he's not coming back."
Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke is apparently well aware that his star player will not be returning after next season. At a reception during Anthony's July 11 nuptials to La La Vazquez in New York City, fellow disgruntled All-Star and Olympic teammate Chris Paul made a toast suggesting his friend join forces with Amar'e Stoudemire and the Knicks. Kroenke then followed with a toast of his own, which was met with what Bucher called, an "awkward silence."
Given their cap space, free-flowing offense, the addition of Stoudemire and the lure of Manhattan, the Knicks are already being considered a top suitor.
