They never will cordon off a section of the Hall of Fame for Theo Ratliff. The only key to a city he might get would be to his hometown of Demopolis, Ala., population 7,500.Still, it's been a pretty solid career for the defensive-minded center. He's a three-time NBA leader in blocked shots. He was named an All-Star in 2001, although he couldn't play due to injury.
Soon, though, it might be over for the 16-year veteran who turns 38 in April.
"It could be my very last year of playing,'' the Lakers big man said in an interview with FanHouse. "It's 16 years. I mean, it's been a long time. So I just take it in stride day by day and enjoy the whole process every single time I step out on the floor.''
Ratliff doesn't play a lot for the Lakers, averaging just 8.4 minutes. But he had gotten into the team's first eight games before sitting out Thursday at Denver due to tendinitis in his left knee.
Ratliff's time figures to decrease when center Andrew Bynum returns late this month or in early December from offseason knee surgery. But Ratliff isn't too worried about it.
