If LeBron James indeed doesn't play in the World Championships, hopefully he can come up with a better excuse than he's starring in a movie.Maybe he can cite a nagging case of athlete's foot due to a long playoff run. Or perhaps he can claim to have a sick goldfish at home.
If the Cleveland star doesn't play because he's gone Hollywood and then wants to rejoin Team USA just in time for the London Olympics in 2012, then there's a problem. That sets a bad precedent for the multi-summer agreement USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo seeks from players.
Speaking to reporters before Wednesday's game against Milwaukee, James said he's "probably not playing'' in Turkey because he's "got a really, really, really, really, really busy summer'' that includes "a lot of things I need to take care of first."
Yes, James can become a free agent this summer, but Colangelo will take that into consideration with all players in that position. Other high-profile candidates for Turkey who might be free agents include Toronto's Chris Bosh and Miami's Dwyane Wade, who is wavering about whether he will play.
