Connecticut continues to be the center of the women's basketball universe.Huskies center TIna Charles was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's WNBA Draft at NBA headquarters in New Jersey. By who else ... the Connecticut Sun.
It took less than 10 minutes for Connecticut to make the expected No. 1 pick in the draft, going with Charles. She will join former Huskies teammate Renee Montgomery on the Sun roster and becomes the third Connecticut player to be the No. 1 overall pick in the draft along with Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi.
Charles has had a whirlwind couple of days. She flew home with the Huskies following the NCAA title game in San Antonio and celebrated in Storrs with a victory parade and then made her way to New York City to prepare for the draft.
"My heart was jumping out of my chest," Charles said. "I am very grateful and this is definitely a dream come true. I'm more interested on what kind of impact I am going to have on the team than being the number one pick."
