Residents of Akron, Ohio, held a day of appreciation for the city's most famous product. And that product, LeBron James, even showed up to acknowledge the fans. Sort of.The Associated Press reports James showed up to LeBron Appreciation Day at the University of Akron just after the event officially ended. A trophy that had already been packed up and put away was pulled out and presented to the two-time NBA MVP. Most of the crowd had left, thinking LeBron wouldn't show up.
"Akron is my home, it's my life," James told the crowd, according to the AP. "Everything I do is for this city. I'm going to continue to do great things. I love every last one of you all. Akron is home."
NBA cities across the nation have made pitches of varying levels of embarrassment for the free agent, who can begin talking to teams July 1. FanHouse's Sam Amick reported earlier this month that LeBron plans to visit at least five teams -- the Knicks, Nets, Heat, Bulls and hometown Cavs -- in July.
