MIAMI -- It's been smooth sailing ahead for the Miami Heat after their wobbly start to open the season against the Boston Celtics. Tuesday night, they continued their quest to convince the naysayers that they truly do belong in the upper elite teams in the NBA with yet another convincing blowout victory, this time over the upstart Minnesota Timberwolves.Once again, the Heat came storming out of the gates at halftime to put up another insurmountable lead in the third quarter that gave the star trio of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh plenty of time to rest on the bench in the fourth quarter.
Michael Beasley, in his return to Miami, was enjoying a solid first half before going down with a left hip contusion that ended his night early. Minnesota never really got going after that with a shooting percentage that continued to decline, finishing at a paltry 36.9 percent and getting out-rebounded 47 to 40 despite being the best rebounding team in the league.
First quarter:
By the first half of the quarter James was scoreless, preferring to get his teammates involved as Wade and Bosh combined for 12 early points and Arroyo scored six points. Beasley tried to do too much at the outset, committing turnovers in his first game at the AmericanAirlines Arena as a visiting player. He quickly recovered by hitting a 3-pointer and scoring a vicious put-back dunk over a group of Heat defenders.
Wolves coach Kurt Rambis explained before the game how Beasley's game was effected with the move to small forward, "He is still adjusting and learning how to do things at the small forward spot. Defensive wise, it's always going to be a challenge for him."
James was held scoreless for almost the entire first quarter with Beasley defending him.
